Mom and Tag - Olivia Newport

I was working at my mom’s dining room table and she was in the kitchen clanking around. Doing whatever, making kitchen noises. Then she came around the corner and said,

“Here’s the change of plans. You didn’t know there was a plan, but here’s the change.”

Plans in my mother’s retired Florida existence are always low key and subject to whims—as they should be for her. Not everybody likes change, though. If we don’t know the plan, we stress. If the plan changes, we stress. Maybe we need to step back from that. Sometimes flexibility and following intuition will get us where we want to go.

• Where are you on the change spectrum? Do you like your plans mapped out or are you ready to change with the winds?
